Pumpkins were the focus for our community caring events this Fall.   In October, we’ve been able to volunteer with Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center and the PSU Arboretum as they prepared for their Halloween Trail and Pumpkin Festival community events.   In November we will be helping out the Centre County Historical Society at the Centre Furnace Mansion; no pumpkins there, instead we’ll be painting some of their display areas for them.

Not only are these volunteer efforts important to us as a company; One of our core values is to strive to be a great community citizen, but also on a personal level.

Centre County is one of 26 communities that participate in the Knight Soul of the Community project that was launched by Gallup and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in 2008.  This study found that the three main qualities that attach people to their community are:

  • Social offerings – such as entertainment venues and places to meet
  • Openness –  how welcoming a place is
  • Aesthetics –  the area’s physical beauty and green spaces

We are proud that Centre County rated number 1 in those communities polled and we are happy to be involved with some of the events and organizations that make our community a great place to live and work.
