David Berger

Our Blue Mountain Summit 2013 Keynote speaker, David Berger’s most recent article in Plant Services explains that the time has come when a company can map its processes to the CMMS’s.  Just a few short years ago it used to be the other way around!   It says a lot for the CMMS software industry that such a statement can be made.  As Mr. Berger states “ If you really understand your user requirements, you can usually find a CMMS package that will fit your needs without having to touch the source code. Just look for a modern CMMS solution that provides adequate tools for configuration as described.”

As a CMMS developer, Blue Mountain strives to incorporate the latest thinking, with the proven best practices that the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industry is using.  Whether this is in the design of our software or the functionality we build into our templates solutions.  The trick of course is to make it configurable and based on the industry we are serving – Life Science manufacturing.

 Configuration is Key!

Berger further identifies some key configuration areas including:

Form and Fields – User Definable and Table Driven
               Hierarchal Records
Flexible User Interface – work spaces
               Configurable Work Flow

For FDA regulated industries, this configurability must also come with the ability to control and manage change.  With compliant records, electronic signatures and audit trails, a fundamental GMP framework is also needed.

Best Practices Will Help You Get There

It might be argued that “best practices” are only appropriate as a starting point in any maintenance improvement initiative and with a CMMS implementation it is no different.  What works for one company may not work for yours but none the less they are still meaningful as point of reference.  As a software vendor, Blue Mountain has the onerous task of sifting through and distilling these common practices into useful tools.  To learn more about Blue Mountain Best Practices, join us at our Blue Mountain Summit 2013, coming up September 17-19, 2013.
