By utilizing a web based n-Tier architecture, the software greatly reduces network traffic and the burden on client resources, while maintaining the security and data integrity demanded in GxP applications. The design consists of a Windows Interface linked via ASP pages to a COM+ based middle tier component. The data store is separate, allowing for database flexibility. In addition, these tiers may be placed on different hardware to enable scaling up and out.

Users of Calibration Manager 4 are not directly "bound" to the database as in a traditional client/server application. Instead, the middle tier utilizes connection pooling to make better use of both the network and software resources. The result is improved performance while maximizing ROI.
